The cross-border commuter checklist

Establish the basic facts

Review the employment documents

Find the clauses for place of work, remote work, business travel, probation, notice, hours, leave and salary. Ask for any policy or addendum referred to but not supplied. Keep the final signed copy.

Ask the right institution

Your employer can explain payroll onboarding and workplace policy. A health insurer or competent social-security institution can address coverage and certificates. Tax conclusions belong with a qualified tax adviser or authority; labour-law advice belongs with a lawyer or authorised body.

Keep evidence of the real pattern

Maintain a work-location calendar and retain relevant payroll and authority correspondence. Revisit the position when the number of home-working days, country of residence, employer or additional activity changes.
